Olympus 2207 Explained: The Mod Before Olympus 2249
Olympus 2249 did not come out of nowhere. Its world started in Olympus 2207, a total-conversion mod for Fallout 2 made by the same developers, who now work as Dieselship Studio. Many of the questions on the Steam forum come down to how the two connect.
What is Olympus 2207?
A total conversion of Fallout 2: it uses Fallout 2’s engine and rules but replaces the world, story and characters with its own post-nuclear setting. Its English translation was finished by June 2021; the No Mutants Allowed forum post announcing that release also announced the sequel, Olympus 2249. A YouTube overview titled “Olympus 2207 (a Fallout 2 mod)” by Warlockracy has over 900,000 views, which is where many players first heard of it.
Is Olympus 2249 a sequel?
Yes, a standalone sequel. It continues the world of Olympus 2207 but it is a separate game, not a mod, sold on Steam. The Steam page sets it in “a post-nuclear dieselpunk America”, and the developers describe it as a single-player cRPG that is story-driven, not a sandbox.
Do you need to play Olympus 2207 first?
No. You do not need Fallout 2, the mod, or any memory of its story. Olympus 2249 has its own character creation (you make your own hero rather than playing a fixed one) and its own systems, such as Karmic Types and paired attributes, that the mod did not have.
If you are curious about the setting, the mod is still a way to see where it started. Players on Reddit who tried it describe a bleaker, more oppressive tone than the new trailer, and a story that ends abruptly.
Will Olympus 2207 come to Steam or GOG?
Not any time soon. Asked whether the original could be released through a Fallout 2 mod framework on Steam or GOG, a developer replied that they had not looked into it because it would need Bethesda’s permission, and that the team does not have time for that right now. “Maybe someday.”
A warning about the old website
The domain the mod used to live on, olympus2207.com, no longer belongs to the team. When we checked on October 4, 2026, it showed an unrelated online-casino page. Do not download anything from it. The developers’ current links are on the Olympus 2249 Steam page, including their Discord server, Olymp Tower.
What carries over
Confirmed so far:
- The world: post-nuclear dieselpunk America. The titles put the mod in 2207 and the sequel in 2249.
- The tone: grim and violent. A developer said that, setting aside palette and music, the brutality is closest to Fallout 1.
- Raids instead of caravans: the optional raids are the studio’s take on Fallout 1 and 2 caravan escorts.
Not carried over: the mod’s composer. A developer said the team contacted him but he is busy, so a return is unlikely for now.
