Is Olympus 2249 Like Fallout? Fallout 1, 2 & ATOM RPG
“Fallout olympus 2249” is one of the most common searches for this game, and for good reason: the team behind it made Olympus 2207, a Fallout 2 total-conversion mod. Players on Reddit place it in the same small genre as ATOM RPG, Broken Roads, Underrail and Colony Ship. Here is how it lines up, based on what the developers have said.
Closest to Fallout 1 in tone
On the Steam forum a player asked whether the tone would be more like Fallout 1, Fallout 2 or Fallout 3 onward. The developer’s answer: if you set aside the colour palette and music and look at how brutal and grim the world is, “there’s absolutely no contest — Fallout 1.”
The Steam content notes back that up: frequent violence, blood and gore, visible injuries and dismemberment, crime and other mature themes. The store tags also list dark humor, which fits the dialogue in the official screenshots.
Side by side
| Fallout 1 & 2 | Olympus 2249 | |
|---|---|---|

| Aimed shots | Yes | Arms, legs or head |
| Setting | Retro-futurist post-nuclear America | Post-nuclear dieselpunk America |
| Morality | Karma meter and reputation | Five Karmic Types that decide which dialogue lines you see |
| Character | SPECIAL, skills, perks | Paired attributes, two specializations, 35-perk pool |
| Party | Recruitable companions | No permanent party; temporary companions and random raid squads |
| Caravans | Escort jobs | Raids replace them, with random allies |
| World | Open travel | Story-driven, not a sandbox |
What feels familiar
- Turn-based tactics with action points and aimed shots.
- Talking your way through. Quests “rarely ask you to just kill someone”, and peacetime skills open other solutions.
- Consequences in dialogue. Say the wrong thing and a faction may not take you in.
- Random encounters with procedurally generated enemies and loot.
What is different
- Karmic Types. Instead of a single good-to-evil number, you choose one of five types and can only pick lines from your own type and its neighbours. See the Karma guide.
- Paired attributes. Strength and Agility are two ends of one trait, so pushing one caps the other. See character builds.
- Environmental combat. Fuel barrels, oil fires, electricity, traps, radiation and poison zones, and storms that reshape the area. See the combat guide.
- A living schedule. NPCs follow day and night routines and have their own beds.
- Solo. Apart from the tutorial and some quests, you travel alone. See companions.
Compared with ATOM RPG
ATOM RPG is the best-known modern Fallout-like, set in a post-Soviet wasteland. Olympus 2249 shares its turn-based, isometric approach, but:
- It is set in America with a dieselpunk look rather than the Soviet Union.
- It has no permanent companions, while ATOM RPG lets you recruit a party.
- Its morality system works through dialogue access rather than reputation alone.
- It launches in Early Access with Act 1 of 3, while ATOM RPG is a finished game.
Should Fallout fans buy it now?
If you want the classic Fallout feel and enjoy replaying with different builds, the Early Access act is built for that. If you want the complete story, wait: the studio expects 18 to 24 months of Early Access. Our Early Access verdict goes through it.
Noted. Safe travels out there.
