Olympus 2249 Companions: Is There a Party?
If you are coming from Fallout 2 or ATOM RPG and expect to recruit a crew, Olympus 2249 works differently. The answers below come from developer replies in two Steam forum threads, “Companions” and “Fully single player (No party)”.
Can you recruit companions?
Not permanent ones. A developer wrote that “at the moment, only temporary companions are planned to assist the hero with specific quests.” They join for a job and leave when it is done.
Is the whole game solo?
Almost. You can play solo everywhere except the tutorial, which the developer says “goes by super fast”.
Raids: random allies
The exception is the raids: optional side content where you hunt down raider groups. Your companions there, and the raiders, are completely random. The developers compare it to caravan escorts in Fallout 1 and 2, “but without the caravans”, and suggest it mainly for players who want more fighting than the main story gives them.
Why no party?
The studio has not given a reason. What it has said is that the game is story-driven, that quests are built around your own skills, and that your Karmic Type and specializations change how you solve problems. A single hero keeps that personal. Some players on the forum were disappointed; others welcomed not having to manage a squad for the whole game.
Will companions be added later?
Nothing has been promised. The developer’s wording was “at the moment”, and the Early Access plan does promise more characters, quests and factions before 1.0. We will update this page if permanent companions are announced.
Tips for playing solo
- Lean on the battlefield: fuel barrels, oil fires, electricity and traps make up for having no backup. See the combat guide.
- A temporary companion on a quest is a resource for that fight. Position them and don’t waste them.
- If you skip the raids you skip most of the randomly assigned allies, but nothing in the story requires them.
Noted. Safe travels out there.
